Blank sheet music without the setup
Most searches for blank sheet music end at a pad with something pre-printed, or at notation software that takes ten minutes to give you an empty page. Here you set a few options and get the paper.
You want plain paper with nothing pre-printed: no key signature, no time signature, no instrument label.
Nothing pre-printed
The page holds only ruled staves. Pick Blank staves for five lines with no clef at all, or add a clef with Treble, Bass or Grand staff.
Notation software is slow when all you need is an empty page.
One page, no software
Open the page, click your options and press Download PDF. Nothing to install and no account to make.
You want the usual 12 staves on a page of A4 or US Letter.
Staves per page
Choose 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 or 16 staves, on A4 or US Letter, portrait or landscape.
Notebook staves sit too close together for ledger lines, lyrics and notes.
Three staff sizes
Staff size is Small, Medium or Large. Fewer staves per page leave more air. Margins cannot be changed, and if your staves do not fit at the size you picked, they shrink to fit.
You need piano paper with treble and bass staves already joined.
Grand staff
Grand staff draws treble over bass with a brace and a line at the left. The number you choose counts pairs, so 4 means four piano systems.
You want bar lines, say four bars in every row, or none at all.
Bar lines per row
Set None, 2, 3 or 4 equal measures per row. On a grand staff the bar lines run through each staff, not across the gap between them.
Ruling staff lines by hand is slow and never straight.
Pre-ruled staves
Every line is drawn for you, evenly spaced down the page. Add three empty lines at the top for a title and your name if you want them.

Blank guitar tab paper
Choose Guitar tab and each row becomes six string lines with a TAB sign at the start. It is the same paper as the staff options: pick size, rows per page, paper and bar lines.
It covers six-string guitar tab only. There is no four-line bass tab, no ukulele tab, no chord boxes and no sheet that combines a staff with tab.

Big staves and blank grand staff paper for piano
Blank piano sheet music is one click: Grand staff with a brace joining the treble and bass staves. Set Staff size to Large and you get 4 mm between lines, a 16 mm staff, which suits young beginners and anyone who writes large.
Large staves take room, so pick fewer systems per page. The screenshot shows four grand staff systems at Large size.
Printing your own staff paper or buying a pad
A pad is fine if its layout suits you. Printing helps when it does not.
| Partiturmaker | Bought manuscript pad | |
|---|---|---|
| Paper | Whatever you load in your printer, so you pick the weight and finish | Whatever the maker used, which some writers find waxy or smeary |
| Layout | Chosen per sheet: clef, size, staves, bar lines | Fixed by the pad |
| Watermark | None | None |
| Cost and limits | Free, no account, unlimited copies | You pay per pad and it runs out |
| Binding | Loose sheets you print and bind yourself | Bound |
What this paper does not cover
There is no percussion staff, no sheet larger than A4 or US Letter, no more than 16 staves per page, no lined paper for lyrics mixed with staves, and no bound notebook. Each file is one page, so print more copies for more sheets. For writing an actual score, see Music Notation Software.
Blank sheet music and staff paper questions
What is blank sheet music called?
Most musicians say staff paper or manuscript paper. In the US you also hear music paper. It is paper with empty staves, ready for notes written by hand.
Where can I find free blank sheet music templates?
Right here. Set the options above and download a PDF. It is free, needs no account and has no watermark, so you can make as many sheets as you like.
Where can I get printable sheet music?
For blank pages, this generator makes printable staff paper as PDF or PNG, or prints straight from the browser. Pages that already have notes on them are a different job. See Sheet Music Player.
Is the PDF good enough to print?
Yes. The PDF is a vector file, so lines and clefs print sharp at any size, and the file is small. The PNG is a picture at about 200 dpi.
Does the tool remember my settings?
No. Reloading the page returns to A4, portrait, treble, 10 staves. Note your favorite setup and click it again, it takes seconds.
Can I type a title or my name on the page?
No. The optional title and name lines are three empty ruled lines you fill in by hand after printing. The PDF is not fillable.
